TIME STANDS STILL WHEN YOU STARE AT THE SUN
2011

A dual screen video installation of real time recordings of the sun’s trajectory across the sky, shot from different vantage points using obsolete video tube cameras that are permanently damaged by direct light. The slow passage of the sun across each camera frame burns a permanent black welt in real time across the screen. Each camera is slowly destroyed by sunlight, the resultant recording of this process being its final vision.
This installation is part of an ongoing series of recordings of the sun burning permanent lines onto the internal sensors of different video cameras. This dual screen version consists of two parallel recordings made from different locations with different camera lens settings. This is enhanced by the use of two different size monitors for playback. Subsequent differences in duration cause the video recordings to phase in and out of synchronisation when screened in parallel. Further such videos can be added alongside these.
